If you are interested in applying for the scholarships awarded by The Bakers Club of Chicago, please read these guidelines:

  • Scholarship recipients are U.S. citizens or legal residents.
  • Special consideration will be given to residents in the Chicago/ Illinois area, but the scholarships are not limited to these areas.
  • Scholarship applicants working for any member companies of The Bakers Club of Chicago will get first priority.
  • Scholarship recipients are working for any member companies of The Bakers Club of Chicago or are currently employed in the baking industry with intentions to pursue or advance their field upon completion of their scholarship. Applicants intending on pursuing a different job after completion are not considered.
  • Recipients are nominated by their peers to the scholarship committee, which can submit two nominees per company to the Board of Directors scholarship committee.
  • Scholarships are intended to encourage and reward the potential for excellence in the baking profession.
  • Any new or continuing full-time or part-time student in the baking or baking related program offered through the American Institute of Baking in Manhattan, Kansas is eligible to apply. Preference will be given to applicants of the resident course at AIB, but workshops and on-line courses will also be considered.
  • Much weight is put on the candidate’s statement of purpose, reflecting the personal philosophy and career goals. Content is a factors in the evaluation of the statement. In addition, two letters of recommendation plus the student’s list of coursework provide secondary support for the application as well as a current resume.
  • Special consideration is given to applicants who have shown initiative, creativity, excellence and/or resourcefulness in their field.
  • Scholarship recipients must earn a passing grade for the course they take.
  • Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis.
  • Scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or state of physical handicap.
  • All materials submitted for consideration for a scholarship automatically become the physical property of The Bakers Club of Chicago and will not be returned to the sender. They will not be used by the Board for any purpose except to help determine who receives a scholarship.
